My Background and Approach
In my practice, I offer a compassionate, gentle and inclusive environment of emotional safety, where you can explore whatever has brought you to therapy whilst feeling supported and understood. I will listen with care and attention, support exploration and insight, and journey alongside you, with belief in your potential to feel more at peace and fulfilled in life.
My core training is in person-centred Counselling, and I have a Masters degree in Clinical Counselling (distinction) and an additional post-graduate advance certificate in person-centred experiential counselling for depression (distinction). I have interest in Compassion-Focused approaches and insights into nervous system regulation, and may offer integrating elements of these approaches into my practice where appropriate. Ultimately, I understand us all to be unique and as such, I do not believe that one approach fits all. I will listen to your preferences regarding what you find most helpful.
My journey into therapy was influenced by my own experience of accessing Counselling on various occasions through my life, from my first experience of sitting with a Counsellor as a teenager, to later encounters as a young adult, as a parent and also a mid-life adult. My experience of Counselling, both personally and professionally, is that by gently exploring our difficulties and struggles in the right environment, we all have potential to grow as a person and improve our wellbeing. This could include increasing our self awareness and understanding, feeling better able to face and process difficult emotions, feeling a greater sense of trust and kindness towards ourselves, building self-worth and personal coping resources, or feeling empowered towards taking our next steps, whatever they may be.
In my Counselling practice, I have gained a breadth of experience through work within the NHS, social enterprise and charity sectors. In my ‘pre-Counsellor life’, I worked in a variety of roles including as a Physiotherapist in the NHS, and spent some time living and working abroad. Outside of work, you may find me adventuring out into nature’s landscapes then cosying up at home with a cup of tea, swimming, singing in a song circle, or attempting to learn more about the natural world. I am a HSP woman and parent of two.
