Individual Counselling
I offer one-to-one online counselling sessions to adults (aged 18+) nationwide.
I work to support clients who come to therapy with a broad range of experiences, including (but not limited to) low mood, anxiety, bereavement and loss, self-criticism, people pleasing, health problems, burnout and overwhelm, navigating life events and difficult circumstances.
I also have particular interest in working to support those who identify as being a highly sensitive person (HSP).
I hope that through therapy, you will feel more confident in making any changes towards the type of life you desire, growing self-understanding and personal resources that will last a lifetime.
What I can help with:
Grief, Bereavement and loss
I have had the opportunity to volunteer as a bereavement support worker and have also worked in both NHS and hospice bereavement services. I am experienced in supporting clients following this difficult, and often complex time. I also acknowledge that feelings of loss and grief are not limited to bereavement. For example, feelings of grief may be felt in the anticipation of loss or change, following a transition in life or unexpected event, or when life does not unfold as we had hoped or expected. Attending Counselling can provide a safe space to gently navigate difficult emotions and significant life change, and provide support in finding your way forward.
Self-Criticism, Self-esteem and Confidence
Sometimes we can be our own harshest critic, speaking to ourselves in ways we would never choose to speak to somebody else. We may repeatedly sacrifice our own wants and needs for others (perhaps to our own detriment), or talk ourselves out of taking steps towards our own hopes or goals. Counselling can help us work towards a more compassionate relationship with ourselves.
Low mood and depression
Low mood may feel triggered by specific events or life changes, or sometimes creep up on us - suddenly realising we have been feeling low in mood, lethargic, or struggling to feel motivated or hopeful for some time. Counselling can provide space to identify the emotions we are experiencing, what may underlie how we feel and potential to find a pathway to better wellbeing.
Anxiety
We can all feel anxious at times, but continued and regular feelings of anxiety can feel hugely impactful. Counselling can help us explore triggers, understand what we are experiencing (both physiologically and psychologically) and can provide space for us to feel more compassionate towards our experience, developing strategies to regulate how we feel.
Burnout
The complexity of modern life can feel overwhelming, exhausting, or ‘too much’ for numerous reasons; be that balancing neurodiverse regulatory needs, juggling parenting and caring responsibilities or the weight of life expectations and work demands. We may keep going as best we can, but find ourselves feeling completely depleted, feeling ineffective or unable to continue as we were. Counselling can support in understanding what is contributing to our feeling of burnout and explore potential to find a better balance.
Long term health conditions/changes to health
Historically, I worked as a physiotherapist in the NHS. As such, I can offer an awareness of how impactful changes to our physical health can be, both those that are seen and those that may appear unseen. Whether we experience a sudden unexpected health event, have a long term health condition or chronic pain, these experiences can be hugely impactful - not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically. Counselling can provide a space of understanding, validation and emotional acknowledgement in your experience.
Navigating Life Transitions
As humans, we experience transitions across our lifespan. Examples include leaving education for the working world, retirement, parenthood, career changes or divorce. Transitions can feel hugely impactful and how we experience them can be influenced by a multitude of factors. Counselling can provide an explorative space to better understand and navigate these changes.
Research projects
I have completed postgraduate research focused on exploring the emotional impact of living in conscious awareness of the climate crisis.
How Sessions Work
I understand that starting therapy may feel daunting, or you may feel excited and ready to go - I begin by offering a free telephone consultation for each potential client. This is an opportunity for you to get a sense of who I am and for us to explore if I am the right person for what you are looking for.
If so, we can then schedule your first Counselling session and I will provide you with important information regarding the contract we will have working together.
At the first Counselling session, we will ensure you understand and are happy with the information I have sent, and you can ask any questions you may have. You may find it helpful to talk about any previous therapy experiences and your hopes for therapy, or you may wish to tell me what's going on for you straightaway, either way I will be led by you.
